The School provides a diverse range of contemporary and challenging programmes in design and the visual arts with strong professional, commercial and community links. These programmes are designed to equip students with the personal and professional skills needed throughout their career. The undergraduate and postgraduate programmes have a reputation for their relevance to the real world. All courses pride themselves on their links to industry and practice and employers appreciate the real world focus. INTERNATIONAL ROLE

The School has extensive overseas links typified by a major collaborative programme - MSc International Design Management for Design is a joint programme with Ecole Internationale de Design in Toulon, validated by the University of Salford and delivered (in English) in Toulon with a mixture of UK and other staff and students. Students from other home-based P/G programmes share some modules which can include study periods in France. ERASMUS staff teaching visits have taken place to: ESAG Paris, Clermont-Ferrand, Toulon, Macerata, Aveiro. Current student exchanges are with:- Strate College, Paris; ESAG, Paris; Ecole Supérieure d'Art Clermont-Ferrand; IED Toulon; Accademia di Belle Arti, Macerata; University of Aveiro; University of Zaragoza; University of Linköpings; Ohio State University, Columbus USA. Extensive links in China are being developed by the School as one of the lead institutions in AsiaLink which has led to major international Design Management conferences such as D2B in Beijing 2006.

NATIONAL ROLE

The School is recognized as one of the major providers of Art & Design education in the northwest of England and has extensive links with partner institutions in the HE and FE sectors. Strong industry links are fostered at all levels and give our programmes a real world focus and relevance, evidenced by numerous live projects and joint ventures with industry such as Knowledge Transfer Partnership projectwork.
